Library

Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in dark-stained wood that follow the staircase from the ground floor up to the mezzanine. The shelving, cabinets and a built-in desk unit step with the stairs and wrap the windows and brick openings, so the whole stairwell becomes one library. The house was built before the Second World War and hardly a wall in it is straight, so every measurement was taken on site and every piece cut to fit the wall it meets. It made this a project of exceptional precision.
